LOONEY TUNES ON DVD

In December 2009, Warner Home Video announced that they would be releasing more Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts on DVD as part of a series called Looney Tunes Super Stars. It was further stated that there would be two releases – one devoted to Bugs Bunny and the other to Daffy Duck – and that the cartoons featured would be totally uncut, fully restored, and previously unavailable on DVD. There would be no bonus material or audio commentaries. The full contents of these compilations were revealed by animation historian Jerry Beck on the Cartoon Brew on January 13, 2010. Unfortunately, their release on August 10, 2010 was clouded in controversy. The majority of the cartoons on both DVDs were presented in a non-optional widescreen format, cutting off the top and bottom of the original frame.

Two additional titles in the series (one featuring Foghorn Leghorn and the other featuring Sylvester and Tweety) were released on November 30, 2010. Fortunately, unlike the Bugs and Daffy discs, these releases were not presented in the controversial widescreen format. Notably, the contents of the Sylvester and Tweety disc feature shorts that have already been released on the Looney Tunes Golden Collection series.
